| Resumo | It is analysed the role of resolution and horizontal mode energy interaction using NCEP analysis for a case study of a cold front over Brazil during 24 to 27 September 2001. It is found that major resolution contributes in general to more detailed structures, in particular at the region of cold front. In general for all the interactions the magnitude of the T126L28 resolution is greater than the T170L42 resolution. The sum of percentages for all horizontal modes interactions shows a wave train crossing south of South America for the first category. It has constructive interference over NW region of the Pacific pressure high and over the SW region of the Atlantic pressure high, and intense destructive interference over the pressure high over south of South America. This destructive interference is mainly due to interaction between Rossby and Westward Gravity modes. The second category presents destructive interference over all the tropical region is mainly due to the interaction between Rossby and Kelvin modes. It is also found that the interaction between Rossby and Westward Gravity modes and between Kelvin and Westward Gravity modes shows a constructive interference at the north side and destructive at the south side of the cold front over sea, mainly for the second category. The reverse is obtained for the interaction between Rossby and Eastward Gravity modes and between Kelvin and Eastward Gravity modes. The interaction between Westward and Eastward Gravity modes shows a tendency to has destructive interference at the north side and constructive at the south side of the cold front over sea. |
